We started our ride to Crawfordsville at 7:30am today with a starting temperature in the low 60Fs. We finally had the weather going our way too with sunshine and a light tailwind. The roads had narrow shoulders if any at all, but the traffic was relatively light. All in all, it was an enjoyable 80 mile ride that required only a modest effort. Chuck called it an "active recovery" ride. I agree.

It was a beautiful day to ride -- sunny, blue skies, slight tailwind! |

The corn is looking good here.
It is well over "knee high by the 4th of July". |

Soybeans are coming along nicely too..... |

...........as is the wheat. |

Chuck and I spent about 20 minutes looking around in Fithian, IL (population 506 in 2000 census). |
|
This building in Fithian, IL, was originally constructed in 1913 as a depot and electric substation for the Illinois Terminal Railroad. The interurban line ran three-car trains between Springfield and Danville. It is now a private residence. |

Close-up of vent-like circular structures on west side of building.
Does anyone know the purpose of these circular structures? That is, other than as a habitat for sparrows. |
|
"Street" sign in Fithian. Do you see it? |
|
Do you see it now?
(Why? Because he can, that's why.) |
