The temperature was in the low 70Fs by the time we started today. I stuffed my rain jacket into my middle jersey pocket just in case the storms predicted for 3pm arrived early. Still, because it was so hot so early and the air was so moist, it was inevitable that I would be wet from rain or from sweat today.

We rode on 15 different roads before Mile 23 today. They all looked like this for the most part. |

7-8 turkey vultures at rest on this house. Several more were milling about the driveway when I first rode up. |

Mid-morning road scene. The hills were few and relatively easy until Miles 76-86. |

Round bales are the most common form of hay or straw bales that we've seen. |

By early afternoon, the heat and humidity were starting to wear me down. I came very close to stopping right here and trying out this swimming hole. |
Miles 76-86 were characterized by rolling hills of 8-12% grade. Coupled with the heat and humidity, it was a tough ten miles. Once we arrived in Funk, the hills were behind us and we actually were no longer in a Funk. Funny how that works like that.

We want the Funk. Give us the Funk. Oh, we need the Funk. Gotta have some Funk. |

Happy to have been able to catch up on the bogs in Funk bottoms. Perhaps they should make a movie there & call it something like "O Sister, Where art Thou."
ReplyDeleteAnd I was hoping to see George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic.
DeleteGlad you are back online. Withdrawal was tough. White Turkey Drive In today will be awesome. root beer floats to die for.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brick. And with respect to the White Turkey Drive-in, your blog photo was the driver for a lot of us to stop there today. Will catch up with that post tomorrow. I will likely return to this area just for a weekday getaway to spend more time in these smaller towns along the way and to revisit the White Turkey.
